Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones

My favorite horror movies of all time are the Paranormal Activity series.  I know many do not like these type for a few reasons... they either don't care for horror movies, or they don't like the 'found-footage' feel.  To each his own.

My little brother says I'm weird because I watch the DVDs over and over again, but I see something different every time I do.  The last release was 'The Marked Ones' (the fifth in series), which some say isn't even part of the series, but that is not so.

It tells more of the story... about the coven, the marks and why they have them, and it even goes back to the very first movie and shows the ending once more, but with a little more insight.  So, yes, Katie IS in this latest movie, even though it was only a few scenes.

Now back to the movie itself.  Info from the packaging:
"Breaks new ground and buries you screaming in it."  The breakthrough horror franchise is back with  "wicked and evil vengeance"*... and it's claimed a new victim.  Seventeen year old Jesse has been hearing terrifying sounds coming from his neighbor's apartment, but when he turns on his camera and sets out to uncover their source, he encounters an ancient evil that won't rest until it's claimed his very soul! Experience an all-new chapter that critics are calling "the very best of the series."

It's rated R and runs for 84 minutes, but the unrated version is 100 minutes.  I've watched both and like the unrated better because it has different scenes that aren't on the other version.  Jesse and his friends are Hispanic and live in the same apartment building.  After his high school graduation, weird things start happening, which is fun for all of them at first, but that soon changes.

After Jesse's high school friend kills his crazy neighbor and then himself, they try to find out how to get rid of whatever it is that is tormenting Jesse.  That brings them to the girl from the second movie (Ali - the only one who wasn't killed because she was away with friends), who explains what the coven is doing.

There are definitely parts of the movie that were funny, kind of gross, and had me jump a time or two.  I'm waiting for the next installment... will it show what happens with Hunter, or will it go elsewhere?  The price is only $9.96 now for the Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital!
