I was contacted several weeks ago about a company based in Virginia that makes healthy convenience foods for children (and adults), called Mom Made Foods.  They use organic ingredients whenever possible and meat raised without anitibiotics, all from the U.S.

They have come out with three varieties of foods, in perfect sizes for children:  munchies, bites, and meals, with different flavor options in each category...

  • Munchies -Like a sandwich, with filling inside a crust:  Chicken, Turkey Sausage, Apple Pie, Cheese Pizza, Bean Burrito
  • Bites - Like a Meatball:  Turkey Meatball, Chicken and Apple Meatball, Beef and Cheese Meatball, Italian Style Beef Meatball
  • Meals - Spaghetti with Turkey Meatballs, Cheesy Mac, Gluten-Free Cheesy Mac

All of these can be purchased in the freezer aisle of natural food stores (Safeway, Martins, Giant, Harris Teeter, Kroger, Whole Foods)  and some leading national retailers for about $5.99.  Make sure to use their store finder to find out if their products are available near you.  They are also listed on Amazon, in packs of eight for $35 and up, with free Prime shipping.

We tried a few of the products, the bean burrito munchies, apple pie munchies, chicken & apple meatball bites and the cheesy mac meal.  All of these taste great and are quick to prepare.  I used the microwave instead of the oven, so I wouldn't have to heat the house up in this hot weather.  I think my favorite was the chicken and apple meatball bites.  The taste combination goes so well together.  I wish the good grocery stores were closer to us, so I could purchase these more often!
