10 Movies to Watch This Halloween

I love the month of October for many reasons, but one of the biggest is Halloween and all the horror movies they show all month long.  If I was in charge of the movie schedule I would pick something different than the same movies they show every year.  Here are some I would choose:

Hocus Pocus {1993} -- You're in for a devil of a time when three outlandishly wild witches return from 17th-century Salem after they're accidentally conjured up by some unsuspecting pranksters! Another older one that kids love!  Funny too.
Stars: Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker

Ernest Scared Stupid {1991} -- The loveable lunkhead Ernest is in for a devil of a time when he accidentally unleashes an evil demon from its sacred tomb, causing the awakened foe to go on a devastating rampage.  My brother used to watch this funny movie over and over again.  Perfect for kids.
Stars: Jim Varney, Eartha Kitt

Dracula Untold {2014} -- The epic action adventure of the man who became Dracula.  This is a good action movie that tells the story of how Dracula came to be.
Stars: Luke Evans, Sarah Gadon

The Conjuring {2013} -- Based on a true story, ghost hunters Lorraine and Ed Warren help a family terrorized by a dark spirit.  This one will leave you wanting to keep the lights on after watching and whenever you hear a clap you will freeze.
Stars: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson

Zombieland {2009} -- Nerdy college student Columbus (Jessie Eisenberg) and gun-toting, Twinkie-loving Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) are about to stare down their most horrifying challenge yet: zombies. Funny even though they go about killing zombies.
Stars: Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin

Deliver Us From Evil {2014} -- Tells the story of a New York police officer (Eric Bana) and unconventional priest Mendoza (Edgar Ramírez) who join forces to investigate a series of disturbing & inexplicable crimes.  Somewhat disturbing and will have you jumping a few times.
Stars: Eric Bana, Édgar Ramírez

The Possession of Michael King {2014} -- An atheist determined to disprove the existence of the supernatural is consumed by a horrifying evil force that will not release him. After his wife dies, he wants to find out if there is 'anything after death' and goes about finding out in ways that are not conventional -- and ends up regretting it.
Stars: Shane Johnson, Ella Anderson

Poltergeist {2015} -- In this terrifying take on a classic, a suburban family tormented by inter-dimensional spirits must save their daughter from being lost to the ghosts forever! This remake is better than the original in my opinion.  The story is more real.
Stars: Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt

World War Z {2013} -- Fast-paced, pulse-pounding epic of the potential last days of the human race. Former United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) is called in to help stop the pandemic that has spread around the world.  I don't think this is Brad Pitt's best acting, but the story is a good one and it goes along fast.
Stars: Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos

Paranormal Activity 4 {2012} -- All of the activity has led to this! When Katie disappeared with her nephew Hunter, there were no survivors. Five years later she's returned with a mysterious boy, ready to target new victims with her demonic rage.  This one has two funny teenagers that cracked me up so many times.  There are a few scenes that will have you jumping, but it does leave you hanging like all of the Paranormal Activity movies do.
Stars: Katie Featherston, Kathryn Newton
