Apple Crisp Recipe With Kellogg's Origins Granola

We had a bag of apples to use up, so I searched online for a different apple crisp recipe.  I found one on Taste of Home and proceeded to prepare it, but I had intentions of changing it up a bit with the NEW Kellogg's Origins Granola I received.  I was hoping it would be crispy, but not overly sweet.  It turned out amazing and I will be making it again!

Here is the recipe from the Taste of Home website:

Winning Apple Crisp
Yield:  8 servings

1 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup rolled oats { I substituted with Kellogg's Origins Granola}
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup butter, softened
4 cups chopped peeled apples
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1.  Preheat oven to 350.  In a large bowl, combine first four ingredients.  Cut in butter until crumbly.  Press half into a greased 2-1/2 qt. baking dish or a 9-inch square baking pan.  Cover with apples.

2.  In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, cornstarch, water and vanilla.  Bring to a boil; cook and stir 2 minutes or until thick and clear.  Pour over apples.  Sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture.

3.  Bake 60 - 65 minutes or until apples are tender.  Serve warm, with ice cream if desired.

Kellogg's Origins is a new product, in several forms - a cereal, granola and muesli.  Thanks to Vocalpoint, we got to try both the cereal and granola.  We got the Ancient Grains Blend Honey flavor cereal and Raisin & Apple flavor granola.

Both MH and I liked the cereal a lot.  It is lightly sweetened and has plenty of good stuff in it.  The granola by itself was a little bland, but it tastes great in recipes and as a yogurt topping!

Some of the ingredients are toasted oats, rye, spelt, fruit, wheat and barley.  Both products retail for about $3.98 each.  According to the website's store locator, it isn't available yet near us.  It can be purchased online though, at places like Walmart, Amazon, CVS and Walgreens.  I will be watching the shelves, hoping it will show up soon!
