17 Things to do in Kuala Lumpur - With Kids

Kuala Lumpur is one of the few cities around the globe that I initially disliked. It could be because we spent the first six weeks exploring the city with a six-year-old with a broken leg, the temperatures were high and we were in a condo inside of Kuala Lumpur City Centre that felt like it could be within any city.

It took me until the third time we visited Kuala Lumpur to see it through the rose-colored-glasses of our friends, who loved the city so much they were considering it as a home base, and to see the charm - and the convenience - of exploring Kuala Lumpur with kids.

That’s when we discovered something. There are actually tons of rad, super-fun things to do in Kuala Lumpur with kids.

Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park | RM 18

Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park is a veritable secret paradise where butterflies actually dance nonchalantly in clumps of fern amidst scented beautiful flowers and flowering vines. Eat at Uncle Roger’s Restaurant | RM 27+

Emotional Damage. I didn’t get the lore around this place until the kids explained the popular tagline and where it came from. It’s a cheap meal, and the kids meals come with a token that can be exchanged for a ball that contains either a lollypop or a small tag that can be exchanged from the souvenir wall. They assure me the photo app at this place is funny, and it’s worth a visit for a funny, themed social-media-influencer-created, lunch spot (even though as claimed, I don’t think it has the best fried rice in town). ‘

Put Your Kids to Work at Kidzania | RM 94

Save this one for your [brave] teens and their adults because this is more than an escape room - it’s a heart-pounding, immersive haunted house experience with rotating themes. Though kid between 8-14 can take part in the experience with an adult, we would suggest waiting until 12+ for this one.
